DON’T UNDERSTAND
“They said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen”
- Luke 24
A great example of Gabriel’s start in film scoring, “Don’t Understand” is a cinematic, yet emotionally driven retelling of the Resurrection of Christ. Told from the viewpoint of Mary Magdalene, it is a cry of sorrow and hopelessness, a plea to God to guide us when we can’t see. Then, at the end of the song, they encounter the empty tomb…and the angel standing inside, waiting to tell them “He is not here, but is risen.”
Although it is a storytelling song, the lyrics in the chorus are a true call from the heart, reflecting on a time when Gabriel couldn’t see or understand what was happening.
